Great news and big plans for Topeka RFC first rugby home game! We have scheduled for the day one full merit table game, Topeka vs. Wichita, then a friendly game between KC Rogues vs ESU/Wichita-B. The winners of each game would then play each other, (same thing followed by the losers) in a friendly play all tournament. Since only one team will come out on top (2,0) we decided to call it sharkfest, giving the "only one team survives" slogan. Also the reason for the nomenclature of the mini-tourney is in honor of our bar sponsor "Sharkeys". This should be an all afternoon fun day of rugby, with quite a celebration at the end taking place at Sharkeys. A trophy will be given to the winning team, along with bragging rights at the bar. There will not be a charge to participate in this event but Topeka RFC will be taking bar donations to help purchase the beer after our kegs run-out. (Much appreciated to those that said they would already be pitching in!) All in all i think it will be a great day of rugby and a good showing of local DIII teams. (and an up an coming DII college side).
Topeka does have plenty of bleacher space for fans on both side of the pitch, but pop-up tents/gazebos, and lawn chairs is always wise to bring. If there is any questions or ideas, about the event please spread them via email between everyone invited (Cc), my ears are always open to suggestions. Event Shirts, and game day food/beverage are still in the planning stage... will let you know as soon as things are finalized.
As for the schedule... We will try and kick things off a little early at 1. All games following Topeka vs Wichita, should be 60 minute games unless scheduled otherwise. Leaving the second game (KC Rouges vs ESU/W-B) to be play at 2:30. Followed by a small 15 minute break, then the third game (between the two losing teams) at 3:45. And lastly the game between the two winning teams at 4:45. BEER and FOOD to follow immediately after!
