Topeka Rugbys New Head Coach!!
Written by Matt Crawford
Thursday, 17 July 2008

Topeka Rugby has great news. It is our honor to have as our new head coach... Billy Pryor! Billy has returned to Topeka recently from California and has quite a rugby background. Billy started playing rugby in college at age 18 in 1976. After starting with a collegiate team he played for Ft. Smith RC, in Arkansas- for 1 yr. Then played for KU from 77-81, going with them to westerns in 1980 only losing to the Barbos in the finals. Also while playing for KU the team won a big 8 title, and a HOA title. In 1981 he moved to Topeka and join TRFC. Playing with them for only a year before he became a player/coach in 1982. He continued to play with Topeka until 1990. Billy moved to California and played with Santa Monica CA. and played for SMRC from 91 to 95. Billy coached the team in 96. but ultimately hung up his boots in 97. Billy did continue to support the Santa Monica Club but only as an alumni. After 12 years of retirement Billy has decided to step back out on the pitch. Topeka is truly excited about having such an experienced/ diversified coach. We hope he can bring some of the west coast rugby style to Topeka and get the team back on the map. During his 20 years of playing rugby Billy has toured twice in Europe. His first IRB tour took him to England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. On his second tour Billy traveled through France.

Be sure to stop by the pitch and congratulate the our new coach. Also come with your boots on. Topeka has a great schedule set for fall 2008, and we need our knowledgeable alum to help get us ready. Even if your not planing on playing for Topoeka RFC, the more we have at practice the more we learn. Looking forward to seeing all of you at practice, and learning from Billy. Topeka RFC really couldn't find a better match for head coach.
